What is Bullying?
Bullying is behavior that is intentional and involves an imbalance of power. It is often repeated over time and can take different forms such as physical, verbal, or electronic abuse. This may occur on school grounds, on the school bus, during field trips, or during school sponsored activities.
Roper's Stance on Bullying:
The safety of our students is a top priority at Roper Elementary. We believe that every student has the right to feel safe in our community. Roper fosters an environment free from any form of bullying and harassment either in verbal, physical, or written form. Bullying is taken seriously and will be addressed accordingly.
Is Conflict the same as Bullying?
No, it is not! Conflicts happen just a few times (or just once). Humans will inevitably have conflict with each other. It is certain to happen at some point. What we need kids to understand is that conflict is normal and can be a positive experience. Conflict teaches us how to listen to others and how to try and reach an understanding that is reasonable to both parties. Conflict is normal, bullying is not.
